What I want for my birthday

April 29, 2011 – 1:49 pm
I have a special request for my birthday this year. For about 5 years or so I have been participating in the Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) Yoga on the Steps of the Art Museum event. It's a really cool event with survivors of breast cancer and their families and friends getting together to breathe and appreciate. We also write checks for LBBC.

April Fools

April 1, 2011 – 1:27 pm
Since it's April Fools Day, I am doing something that I normally wouldn't do: write a blog post. Also, I have added my new best friend to my web site.

The long and winding road

November 3, 2010 – 11:00 am
Someone in the office just asked me how I felt about the Democrats losing the House (among other things) today. And, after thinking about it I remembered that when I got my first political job as a door to door canvasser for the environment, we had a Democratic President and a Republican Congress. Now, 13 years later, here I am again. But, this time I am older and wiser and I have been through this before. How many times in your life have you wished for a do over? I may have just got one. I guess that is the beauty of politics. You get to shake yourself off and try again over and over. After I get past the shock of the day,  I can't help but take the long view. No matter how far I go, I get back to the same place.

The definition of inanity is . . .

October 20, 2010 – 7:34 am
. . . repeating the ever popular Einstein quote, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results," over and over again to make a point. Seriously, can't anyone think of something new? Even if you just limit yourself to Albert Einstein quotations, you have a wealth of wisdom to choose from. And, by the way, don't people see the obvious irony of using it over and over in political speeches? I mean, come on. </rant>

Making me think

September 22, 2010 – 8:23 am
From Ray Murphy's post on Facebook: "Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours." - Hermann Hesse

ACTION TIME: Closing the “Enthusiasm Gap”

September 7, 2010 – 8:58 am
(Cross-posted on OpenLeft and DailyKos) Hey everyone, this is Levana Layendecker with DFA and Jason Rosenbaum from the PCCC. Together again and better than ever. You can't seem to turn around lately without someone asking us about the 'enthusiasm gap.' It looks like Democracy for America and Progressive Change Campaign Committee volunteers didn't get that memo, because our 'phonebombs' for key challenger races across the country are going great. When bold progressive candidates stand up, our members will stand with them.

This isn’t about Ground Zero - This is about America

August 23, 2010 – 1:08 pm
(Cross Posted from Blog for America | Written by: Arshad Hasan on Aug 19, 2010) Over the last week we've heard a lot from DFA members around the country asking for action to protect the rights of religious freedom for all Americans and I couldn't agree more.

Republicans are at it again

August 9, 2010 – 1:57 pm
(Cross posted from BlogforAmerica.) As Jim said in his email today: “The Deficit Commission is the most dangerous threat Social Security has ever faced. Republicans stacked the bipartisan commission with right-wingers who've spent their careers trying to kill Social Security -- and Congress has promised to fast-track the Commission's recommendations.

Net Neutrality Made Us Who We Are

July 12, 2010 – 9:19 am
(Cross posted from Blog For America.) Back in 2004, I didn’t really get involved with partisan politics. I always voted for Democrats, but I never lifted a finger to help any candidate because I had no faith that they would ever listen to me. I voted more out of a sense of duty than anything else. I knew that I had no influence over the Democratic Party because I didn’t give them any money, and they didn’t ask. It seemed like they took my vote for granted.

Real Women Don’t Listen to This Crap

July 1, 2010 – 6:52 am
This is officially the most ridiculous crap I have read in a very long time. I hope that Feministing tears this to pieces. Here's a tiny little flavor: Obama: Our first female president No, I'm not calling Obama a girlie president. But . . . he may be suffering a rhetorical-testosterone deficit when it comes to dealing with crises, with which he has been richly endowed.
